Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar browser storage Global Small Commodities uses and how you can manage your preferences.
1. What a Cookie Is
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device to remember something about your visit. Browser storage (such as localStorage) works similarly but stores data directly in your browser rather than in a cookie file. Together, these technologies allow websites to function correctly and remember user preferences.
2. The Preferences Pill
A small preferences pill appears in the lower corner of every page. Tapping it opens a dialog where you can control optional categories. Your choice is saved in your browser under the key gsc_pref_v1 so you are not asked again on every page.
3. Categories of Cookies and Storage
Essential. These allow the site to function. They include the entry that records your preference choice and any temporary state required for navigation. They are always active; without them, the site would not work as expected.
Functional. These remember choices you make to personalise your experience, such as remembering that a dismissible banner has been closed. They are only set if you opt in.
Analytics. These help us understand aggregate usage patterns, for example which pages are read most often. They are only set if you opt in, and when used they are configured with anonymisation in mind.
We do not currently set advertising, marketing, or cross-site tracking cookies of our own.
4. Inventory of Storage Items We Set
| Name | Type | Category | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
gsc_pref_v1 |
localStorage | Essential | Records your preference selection so the dialog is not shown on every page. | Until cleared in your browser, or up to 12 months after which you will be re-asked. |
If we later add functional or analytics storage items after you opt in, this table will be updated to list each item by name, purpose, and duration.
5. Third-Party Resources
Some pages load resources from third-party providers. When these resources load, the provider receives standard request information, including your IP address. The third parties used by this site are:
- Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) for web typography. See the Google Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare cdnjs (cdnjs.cloudflare.com) for the Font Awesome icon library. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
- OpenStreetMap (openstreetmap.org) for the map embed on the Contact page only. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy.
These providers may set their own cookies independently of this site according to their own policies. We do not control those cookies.
6. Managing Your Preferences
You can change your preferences at any time by clicking the pill visible on every page. You can also delete cookies and browser storage directly through your browser settings. If you clear the gsc_pref_v1 entry, your consent record will be reset and you will be asked again on your next visit.
Browser-level cookie controls are documented here:
7. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. Because there is no universal industry standard for how sites must respond to this signal, we treat a "Do Not Track" signal as a preference to decline optional categories until the visitor explicitly opts in through our preferences dialog. Where required by applicable law, we also honour the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal as a valid request to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information.
8. Changes to This Policy
If we change which cookies we use or add new categories, this policy and the inventory table above will be updated. The "Effective" and "Last reviewed" dates at the top of this page will reflect when the change was made.
